Shilajit Purity Test: 5 Tests To Verify The Purity At Home

Here is how you can test the purity of Shilajit at your home with these 5 tests. Also, you can order the purest form of Pahadi Shilajit from Pahadi Amrut.

Shilajeet or Shilajit, irrespective of the spelling, this himalayan elixir is a mineral-rick resin that can improve your energy levels and overall health.

In the past few years, shilajit is growing in popularity at a blazing speed globally. Compared to 2023, the interest in shilajit grew by a staggering 132%.

That’s not all.

There are over 468K searches per month related to the term shilajit, pahadi shilajit, among others.

And It’s just the start.

But before you search for blackish-brown extract from mother nature and take in all its goodness, you must be aware of the purity of the product.

Let’s explore more into this.

Why To Test Shilajit’s Purity?

The global shilajit market is projected to reach $105 million in 2029.

But with the popularity of the product, there are multiple new brands emerging in the global markets who are selling fakes in the market.

If not fake, they are compromising on the quality and grades of shilajit.

You don’t want to get trapped or fooled by those brands, right?

That’s why it’s advisable to try out a sample from your favorite brand and perform the purity test of shilajit to confirm its genuineness.

Being in the industry for years now, our customers tell us that we check the fulvic acid concentration. Brands claim it around 60-80%. And as the general rule of thumb it is believed that the higher the better.

But it’s one of the biggest MYTHS you must clear out.

IMPORTANT: When you check any medical report of any brand, please ensure that Fulvic acid is only around 15% to 20% of shilajit.

Apart from this myth, here are the three reason why it is important for the customers to test the purity of Shilajit:

1. It can help you with better health

You don’t want to rely on any mediocre shilajit and compromise on your health. An adulterated or low grade shilajit can negatively impact your health. You can also miss out on all the positive benefits it has to offer. So, testing the authenticity of shilajit at your home becomes very important.

Being a complex mixture of minerals, fulvic acid, humic acid and other beneficial compounds, authentic pahadi shilajit can be a natural energy boost and improve your stamina.

2. Get value for money

Let’s get it straight and understand the trend in the market. The amount of shilajit that is sold globally is way more than the amount produced.

So, as the basic rule of supply and demand, if you need authentic and rare pahadi shilajit it comes with a price tag to match. Also, the gap in demand is filled by adulterated shilajit in the market that is selling for a couple of hundred bucks for 10gm.

So, conducting a purity test helps you confirm that you're not being misled by fancy packaging or false claims.

3. Only purchase authentic and rare shilajit

The demand for shilajit has led some manufacturers to cut corners, adding fillers, chemicals, or even synthetic substances to their products.

By testing for purity, you protect yourself from harmful additives and ensure you're ingesting a natural and uncontained product.

There are also claims that shilajit is a sticky liquid form that can be stretched a lot. But be aware of those counterfeitable liquids. That’s not authentic shilajit you should bet on.

Now that you know the reasons to test the purity of shilajit, let’s understand how you can do it at home.

5 Tests To Verify The Purity of Shilajit At Home

Before starting the drive to provide you authentic and pure pahadi shilajit, straight from the himalayas, we have also been fooled many times regarding the purity of shilajit.

Over the years with our research, we have figured out top 5 ways you can test the purity of shilajit at home.

Have a look:

1. Charcoal Test

Things to Consider: Pure shilajit should melt and swell without producing smoke when exposed to heat.

Procedure:

  • Place a small piece of Pahadi Shilajit on glowing charcoal.
  • Observe the reaction carefully.

Observation:

  • Authentic shilajit will melt and swell into a shape, often resembling a "linga" (a phallic or oval form), without producing any smoke.
  • If the shilajit emits smoke or burns, it may be adulterated or impure.

2. Water Immersion Test

Things to Consider: Pure shilajit behaves uniquely when placed in water, sinking in threads rather than dissolving.

Procedure:

  • Fill a bowl with stable, clean water.
  • Drop a small piece of shilajit onto the water's surface.

Observation:

  • Authentic shilajit will sink slowly in a "thread-like" manner, maintaining its form as it moves to the bottom.
  • It should not dissolve or break apart in the water. If it dissolves, it might be of inferior quality or mixed with other substances.

3. Solubility Test

Things to Consider: While shilajit should dissolve in warm water, it should not leave any residue.

Procedure:

  • Take a small piece of shilajit and drop it into a glass of warm water.
  • Stir gently and observe the changes.

Observation:

  • Pure shilajit should dissolve completely, turning the water a uniform golden or brownish color.
  • Any remaining particles or sediment suggests impurities or fillers are present.

4. Burn Test

Things to Consider: Pure shilajit should bubble and produce a white ash when exposed to an open flame.

Procedure:

  • Place a small amount of shilajit on a metal spoon or surface.
  • Apply a direct flame using a lighter or candle.

Observation:

  • If the shilajit bubbles and produces white ash without catching fire, it is likely pure.
  • If it burns easily or turns black without forming ash, this may indicate the presence of additives or non-authentic materials.

5. Melting and Pliability Test

Things to Consider: Authentic shilajit is soft and pliable at room temperature and should melt when held in the hand.

Procedure:

  • Hold a small piece of shilajit in your hand for a few minutes.

Observation:

  • Pure shilajit will soften and become sticky or gooey due to the warmth of your hand.
  • If it remains hard or does not soften, it could be a sign of adulteration.

By conducting these tests, you can confidently assess the purity of your shilajit at home. But if you want to go through these hassles and be completely sure about the product.

Don’t worry. We have done the hard work for you.
